Long Island pharmacies offering new boosters
September 10, 2022
Major pharmacies on Long Island like CVS and Walgreens began administering the new COVID-19 booster shot Wednesday, with other health care systems set to have doses available by next week at the latest.
The new booster attacks the original COVID-19 virus, and the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of the omicron variant, which are causing most current infections.

New Yorkers who contract COVID-19 can now call a free 24-hour hotline to find treatment options. It's geared towards underserved communities and residents who don’t have a regular doctor.
Residents who test positive for COVID can call the hotline to schedule a free telehealth appointment. Health care professionals manning the phones can then prescribe oral antiviral medicine or give callers a referral.
Governor Kathy Hochul said all New Yorkers deserve access to treatment regardless of income or health insurance.
“We have therapeutics, but a lot of people have barriers," she said. "They don't know where to get them, what is this all about, and a lot of people just don't have a regular health care provider in the state.”
Hochul said COVID-19 variants still pose a threat and urged residents to stay up-to-date with booster shots.
The hotline was rolled out alongside a $1 million public awareness campaign on TV, radio and social media to encourage COVID-19 testing and treatment.
The number is 888-873-2869 or 888-TREAT-NY. New York City residents can call 212-COVID-19. Access to the free telehealth appointment is also available online.
On Long Island, the 7-day average of COVID cases per 100,000 people is 44%, higher than the state's average of 34%.

With the greatest thanks, I write to tell you what an incredible public service you have provided by publishing these "appointment alerts"; we got to book one because of you in late January; we go next week into Javits; heard it was well organized and very quick; I know things are loosening up, but all should know what an amazing service you are providing..........especially the County and the State who have done an incredibly POOR job of communicating ANYTHING! Thank you, Gloria Kruse

Thank you for the information on Covid Vaccine Appointments being available.
I was able to make an appointment at Stony Brook in April.
FYI when I logged on to the NYS site it said that no appointments were available at Stony Brook, when I went to book my appointment , Stony Brook was available, ( I live a couple miles away from Stony Brook ). Thanks again
From Gary H:
Just wanted to says THANKS for posting the Covid info. on your site. Last night before going to bed my wife checked one more time to see if miraculously there were any appointments available - and there was! We did dueling computers to get both our appointments at the same time at Aqueduct! It was only afterwards that we saw you had posted the notice, but without your site we never would have been able to figure out this process! This morning we looked at the post about your visit to Aqueduct, reassuring us that we made the right choice!
Thanks again and Stay Safe,
Have been on staff at St. Francis and need an appointment for vaccine. Enployee health sent me to DeMattis and the phone number is not working?
I'm waiting patiently for the covid vaccine but have been unable to get an appointment I'm 72 have had lymphoma twice have hypertension and a fib. I live in Queens but can travel my primary doctor and cardiologist belong to St Francis hospital can you helped.Thanks.
Given the special requirements to store the COVID-19 vaccines, many hospitals may not be vaccination sites. Currently, there is not indication that St. Francis Hospital will be one of the sites. https://stfrancisheartcenter.chsli.org/
I am happy to find this info on vaccinations at local hospitals on Long Island. I have heart and asthma issues as well as past reactions to shots, therefore only want to get the vaccination at a hospital where I trust they can monitor me after the vaccine. Hope to hear vaccines coming in more and more.
Casey DeNicola:
Because of an email I received from the Roslyn Landmark Society, I was able to get an appointment at Stony Brook. I want to send a heartfelt thank you. Thanks, Howard, Casey DeNicola

HI Tina, currently there are no appointment openings in Long Island or NYC. I have subscribed you to the Roslyn Landmark Society newsletter. We will email you an early warning once a new supply of vaccines arrive.
Another vaccination search website has been added. Openings are available for New York City employees.
Northwell Health link to additional vaccination locations added. Currently, there are no openings.
My husband is 74 and had a stroke six yrs ago I am 73 and work in the school district in Nassau County Have been tring for vaccines but cant get on any sites Have tried Aquaduct and all available hospitals How can we get the shots
Elizabeth, as seen above as of now, there are currently no open appointments available on Long Island and NYC. The only openings require a trip upstate.
It is expected that Long Island openings will be available when a new shipment of vaccines arrive. I will keep an eye out when this occurs.
Howard--
Thank you so much for doing this. I have tried repeatedly but i will keep trying. This is a wonderful thing you are doing and it is much appreciated.

My husband and I trying to a vaccine in roslyn St Francis Hospital. He is 73, and I 70, he is high risk two months in hospital last year covid, cardiologist was clear that we both must get vaccine, so where we need help must be at St Francis Hospital he has bad heart disease. Help!
Marie, sorry for your difficulties in obtaining an appointment. You are not alone!
St. Francis Hospital has not been designated as a location for the vaccinations. The closest location is the Yes We Can Community Center in Westbury (see the above Nassau County link).
Unfortunately, there are currently no appointments available on Long Island or NYC. This changes depending on the vaccine shipments. I heard, second-hand, that if you show up at a vaccination site at the end of the day and are eligible, you may be able to obtain an appointment. Good luck!
Im not finding any site s to go to on this web site! How else can I get a appointment??
Christina, as seen above. click on this New York State link https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/ As of 11:00 am on Saturday, 1/16/21, 11 of the13 sites have appointments available through March 2021.
Saturday, 11:11 am: i just checked the New York State COVID-19 vaccine website, they are now accepting appointments through April 2021. There were over 150 openings at Aqueduct.
