Founded around 1860, this burial ground was a result of the Rural Cemetery Act, which sought to combine cemeteries and parks. Several prominent people are buried here, including William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878; monument seen below): journalist, novelist and poet Christopher Morley (1890-1957); and author Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924), who wrote Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess and the Secret Garden.
A survey of the 31 cemeteries located in the Town of North Hempstead can be found in the above Project files.
