Woodbury Cottage
91 Remsen Avenue, Roslyn
Adapted form the 1997 House Tour Guide (Page 88).
The handsome Colonial Revival building known as "Woodbury Cottage" was built in 1903 by John F. Remsen (for whom Remsen Ave. is named). It was purchased on May 5, 1903 by Dr. Harvey W. Woodbury and Raymond V. Ingersoll.
According to Roslyn historian Roy W. Moger the builder was Benjamin F. Speedling. A clipping in the Stewart Donaldson scrapbooks in the Bryant Library authenticates this attribution. Dr. Woodbury and Mr. Ingersoll sold the property to Roy W. Moger's mother, Edna I. Moger on July 24th, 1904. Edna Moger sold the property to her son, Roy W. Moger on April 29th, 1943. Upon the death of Roy W. Moger in August of 1990, the property passed to Roy's wife, Elizabeth H. Moger. The Moger family has long been interested in the history of Roslyn and is to be credited with the careful preservation of this wonderful old house. Their interest in architectural history guided them in refraining from making any major changes to this distinguished house.
